Looking for Christmas Tree Toppers that are unique and creative? Here are 7 tree toppers that take decorating to the next level.

Before I get started on this post—I wanted to tell you that if you signed up for the hand-painted (by me) blue and white ornament drop, be sure and check your inboxes. We have super limited inventory, so I only sent it to people who let me know they were interested.

I hope you love them as much as I do. 🙂

And now?

Today’s post is inspired by yesterday. Wasn’t that fun? I was so excited about the Christmas tree hack, and you all were, too. Thank you so much for the lovely emails and encouragement.

You all loved the bow topper idea, so I thought it might be fun to explore some other options for what goes on top of the tree.

Especially now that we all know an easy way to decorate the top of the tree.

Truth?

In random news? There are so many times I forget about the top of the tree. I get so caught up in the ornaments and the lights and the ribbon and the snowflakes and the garland and the bows that I forget about the tippy top of the branches.

The default, of course, is the star.

And I’m here for it.

But there are so many other ways to get a little creative with the top of the tree. And I mean creative. I can’t wait to show you the BEST ideas I’ve used myself and a few new ideas I found. Just as an example—did you know there’s a tree topper that projects stars onto the ceiling?

Yep.

It shines on the top of the tree and then it shines stars right onto the ceiling.

Isn’t that amazing?

And we are just getting started.

Here are  7 creative, unique and outside-the-box ideas for Christmas tree toppers.

// eucalyptus stems //

1. Eucalyptus tree topper

Have you ever thought about adding stems to the top of the tree?

It kind of makes sense.

Stems are tall and they fill out the top of the tree and add extra height.

And they just look so fancy.

If you want to create a tree topper like this:

  • add a bow to the top of the tree
  • tuck eucalyptus in and around the bow
  • fluff the eucalyptus in all directions until you round out the tree topper
  • you can use this tree topper base to stabilize it

You can see eucalyptus (they are the perfect length) here.

2. Flowers and ribbon

Here’s another version of number one.

Except instead of eucalyptus—this tree topper in the dining room uses ribbon and flowers and branches.

If you want to create a tree topper like this:

  • add a velvet bow to the top of the tree
  • wire branches and flowers together to form an arrangement
  • tuck flower arrangement in and around the bow
  • fluff the branches in all directions until you round out the tree topper
  • you can use this tree topper base to stabilize it

Here’s another version that’s more neutral with a little bit of farmhouse.

The concept is the same, except you use single-stem branches and gold ribbon.

If you want to create a tree topper like this:

  • add a gold bow to the top of the tree (it always starts with the bow)
  • wire branches and stems together to form an arrangement
  • tuck the arrangement in and around the bow
  • fluff the branches in all directions until you round out the tree topper
  • you can use this tree topper base to stabilize it

3. Map star

This is such a fun DIY for the top of the tree.

I’ve shared it before—it has its own story. Those are my father’s maps that my sister made a star from. She folded the maps using origami.

Every year I pull it out, and every year I decorate with it, and every year I celebrate my dad.

4. Light up grapevine star

This star is sitting on my kitchen counter right now and it’s waiting for a tree.

It looks amazing twinkling on top of the tree and it’s the perfect size for a tree topper.

It’s a grapevine star that lights up and it’s perfect for a neutral or farmhouse tree.

You can see it here.

5. Chalkboard star

Here’s a clever idea if you are up for something a little tree-top random.

What about a chalkboard?

Yep.

A chalkboard on top of the tree with a chalk star.

6. Ribbon tree topper

Now for the easiest tree topper award.

This bow is NEXT LEVEL. I loved it so much that I ordered it last year in blue as well.

I have it on top of the tree in the dining room (that’s a tree with nothing but Santa’s).

It also comes in polka dot ribbon and several other colors, too.

And it’s UNDER $15.00.

You can see it here.

7. Hanging tree topper

I saved my favorite idea for last.

Instead of hanging the star on the tree? What if you hung the star OVER the tree?

Genius, right?

If you want to create a tree topper like this:

  • start with a snowflake or a star
  • attach a ribbon to the top
  • hang from the ceiling over the tree

And don’t forget this tree topper that projects stars onto the ceiling.

Sigh.

My heart is so happy.

I love decorating for Christmas and Christmas trees are at the top of my decorating list.

Literally. 🙂

PS Don’t forget to check your inbox for the ornaments. I can’t wait for you to see them.

Genius! I like your idea so much that I plan to adapt it! Since I don’t enjoy climbing on a ladder either :), I am going to decorate the top tier “on the ground” and then put it in place. Thank you for the idea!

I love, love, love these ideas!!! Another idea I used last year was a wooden, blended monogram as a tree topper. It was red so it worked great!

Oh KariAnne you bring us into your home and make us feel so welcome... I'm trying to catch up with you girl, but you are way far ahead of me... I'm working on it! Love all your ideas. The snowflake tree topper was a great idea.... I did something similar one year... I hung several small white crocheted snowflakes all around the ceiling at the top of my tree at different heights... I used small stick(sewing) pins in the ceiling and white thread to tie to the snowflake. It looked like snow flakes falling around the tree. Fa La La La La... Tis the season! Our season!

The star projector topper is awesome for kids, little and big - just ordered one for my grandchildren - 5 & 7 yrs old. They will love it for sure!

I have always had an angel for a tree topper. I've even made my own from a Barbie-like doll with cardboard wings, tinsel halo and satin draped fabric for her dress.

KeriAnne, Wonderful ideas! Since we downsized our free from 8ft to 6ft, these ideas will give my smaller tree some height! Also thanks for the link for tree topper base, had no idea! Jo
